With the participation of Nelson Fernández, journalist, as guest speaker, CADAL held at its headquarters a new meeting Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires. This time, “La Nación” (Buenos Aires) permanent correspondent in Uruguay and press director of the TV channel “NSTV – Nuevo Siglo”, tackled in his last book (co-authored by the journalist Hugo Machín) the political and economic situation of Uruguay.

CADAL organised the last Foro Catalinas of 2016 where Carlos Fara, Director of CADAL's Advisory Council, gave a summary of Mauricio Macri's first year of government. Amongst the participants were the ambassadors of Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden as well as diplomats from the European Union, Romania, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico and Honduras.

The programme took place from November 1 to 17 with a total of nine classes. Primarily directed at students and university graduates younger than 25 years, the programme elaborated the development of socialism in Eastern and Central Europe between 1917 and 1989, the transition to communism and the cases of the remaining dictatorships in Cuba and North Korea. A wide range of lecturers participated in the programme including historian Ricardo López Göttig, Professor Fernando Ruiz, the representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Argentina, film critic Pablo de Vita, Sociologist Gabriel Palumbo, Political Scientist Agustín Menédez, the ambassador of Geogria and the President of CADAL.

In the framework of the 20° edition of the Forum 2000, Micael Lagergren received from the hands of Cuban democratic activists in the Zofin palace in Prague, the award to committed diplomacy in Cuba 2015. Lagergren worked as the third secretary of the Sweden embassy in Cuba form May 2010 to April 2015.

The fourth edition of this conference was distinguished by the presentation of various panels, some of them dealt with “Antisemitism: remnant of the past, stories of the present” while other focused on the violation of human rights in a number of countries, such as North Korea, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Venezuela or Nicaragua. The opening remarks were made by Claudio Avruj and Graciela Fernandez Meijide and the conference was closed by Günter Nooke. This activity was sponsored by Konrad Adenauer Foundation and received the institutional support of Forum 2000, UN Watch, Equatorial Guinea Justice, International Coalition to Stop Crimes against Humanity in North Korea (ICNK).

With the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, CADAL organized in the hall of the House of Representatives of the Legislative Palace in Uruguay, a seminar dedicated to the analysis of the challenges in terms of human rights and democratic governance in the new political context of Latin America.

A Foro Latinoamericano was held at the headquarters of CADAL in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The objective was to analyze the first seven months of the Macri administration and challenges to the opposition in Uruguay. Speakers were Carlos Fara and Adolfo Garce.

Martin Palouš He belonged to the original signatories of Charter 77, served as its spokesperson in 1986 and participated at the creation of Civic Forum during the Velvet Revolution (November 1989). After the fall of Communism he was a member of Parlament, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States and Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations. During his stay in Argentina he was declared Honor Guest of the City of Buenos Aires.

From the 14 to 30 of June,2016 CADAL in collaboration with Fundación Konrad Adenauer organized six seminars on "The reintegration of Argentina in regional and international politics". The seminars were moderated by Sybil Rhodes and speakers were Juan Battaleme, Jorge Elias, Alejandro Rebossio, Guido Nejamkis, Danilo Trupkin, Carlos Gervasoni, Federico Merke, Marcelo Elizondo, Jorge Castro, Rodolfo Caffaro Kramer, Föhrig Alberto and Luis Maria Palma.

The programme "International Solidarity and Democracy" of CADAL organised a conference in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where former president of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, took part together with the Cuban activists Laritza Diversent, Manuel Cuesta Morúa and Victor Manuel Domínguez.

Hauke Hartmann, Liliana De Riz and Carla Carrizo discussed global trends, the performance of Argentina and challenges to transformation in the country, respectively in the Foro Latino Global held at the headquarters of CADAL. To prepare the Bertelsmann Transformation Index (BTI) specialists in 129 countries, guided by a list of standardized codes, evaluated it based on a total of 17 criteria. The BTI summarizes the results of this comprehensive study of the processes of transformation and political management into two indexes. Status Index comprises two analytical dimensions that evaluates the state of political and economic transformation, and the Management Index evaluates the quality of governance . The methodology, global trends and regional chapters of the BTI are published in Spanish by CADAL.
