CADAL Organizes Annual Conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Diplomats, public officials, city legislators and human rights activists all participated at the Conference on the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarianism. The day of remembrance is officially recognized by the City of Buenos Aires since last year when it was proposed by city legislators Cecilia de la Torre and Francisco Quintana.

The event was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, the Palacio San Martín. Among those in attendance were members of the Argentinian foreign service.

Carmen Podgorean; National Secretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism Claudio Avruj; Director of the Hannah Arendt Observatory in Venezuela, Alejandro Oropeza; Deputy Secretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism for the City of Buenos Aires Pamela Malewicz; City of Buenos Aires legislator Lía Rueda; CADAL President Gabriel C. Salvia; Electoral Transparency Director Leandro Querido; Special Representative for Social Integration and Participation (REIPS) Fernando Lorenzo; and Chilean author and diplomat Jorge Edwards.

Cecilia de la TorreThe conference included an emotional homage to Cecilia de la Torre (1962-2016), one of the legislators that proposed the adoption of the City of Buenos Aires’ Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarianism.

CADAL realizó conferencia anual en sede de la CancilleríaA video titled “Solidarity with Current Victims of Human Rights Abuses” was screened, which included testimonies by Hassan Sheikh (Somalia), Kim Hyeong Soo and Eunkyoung Kwon (North Korea), Reem Khalifa (Bahrain), Alex Bialiatski (Belarus), María Mercedes Benítez González and Manuel Cuesta Morúa (Cuba), Anastasia Zotova (Russia), Farid Tukhbatullin (Turkmenistan), Antonio Karam (Tibet) and Radwan Ziadeh (Syria).
