Holland’s Caecilia Wijgers, Sweden’s Ingemar Cederberg and Germany’s Volker Pellet were the winners of the 2009-2010 Award to Committed Diplomacy in Cuba awarded for their humanitarian work on the island. The award is an initiative of the Centre for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL), which is based in this city, as part of its Democratic Bridge project. The trio were chosen by 135 Cuban human and civic rights activists from a field of 16 nominated foreign diplomats. Previous winners include Allen “Tex” Harris, posted at the United States Embassy here in Argentina during the 1976-83 military dictatorship.
