The Alberto Marten Prize for Social Entrepreneurship honors the non profit organizations that combine ideas and action. Social entrepreneurship spirit, means the solutions develped by citizens who in a voluntary and private way give answers to social problems. This prize bears the name of economist Alberto Marten Chavarria for being the founder of solidarity movement in Costa Rica on 1947.

CADAL signed an agreement with Cooperativa de Radios del Interior (CORI) of Uruguay, accepting that member radio stations include the weekly radio show "Apertura Latinoamericana" by CADAL Buenos Aires.

Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) and Fundación Friedrich A. von Hayek are the institutions that publish "Burocratómetro: Un alerta al contribuyente argentino" (Boureaucratometer: An alert to Argentine taxpayers), consistent on a survey of all law projects presented by legislators annually, and an analysis of which would mean an increase in public expense; and if such expense has been taken into account by legislators or if they just state that the funds will be taken from general federal revenues.

During September 17, 18 and 19 the 2008 Seminar ''Economic information: media, politics and companies'' will take place at Universidad Católica Argentina. This activity is schedulled in three days, with seven classes and one discussion, including the participation of important academics and referents from economic journalism: Juan Carlos de Pablo, Hugo Grimaldi, Tristán Rodríguez Loredo, Nelson Fernández, Raúl Ferro, José del Río and Fernando Ruiz.

With motive of the Olimpic Games in Beijing 2008, CADAL launched a campaign "Gold Medal for Human Rights", consistent of an advertisement with an illustration donated by Alfredo Sábat. Moreover, the advertisement has a text reminding the anthem of the Football World Cup 78 in Argentina, organized by the last military dictatorship.

In a letter sent to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of seven democratic countries member of the UN Council of Human Rights, the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) expressed its concern with regards to the possible election of Jean Ziegler next March 26, 2008, candidate proposed by Switzerland as member of the Consulting Committee at the Human Rights Council. CADAL is concerned because Mr. Ziegler's nomination does not follow the requirement of honesty, indepedence and impartiality required for that job.

Regarding the Presidential proposal of Juliana Marino as Argentine ambassador in Cuba, Gabriel Salvia, Chairman of the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) stated that “it would be a backlash in the relations with the island for the person chose has a well known history in the defense of the remaining dictatorship in the region”.

The Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) backs Argentine President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, regarding her critics to Equatorial Guinea's Dictator, Teodoro Obiang Ngume. In this regard, Gabriel Salvia, Chairman of CADAL, stated that "after the response made public by Equatorial Guinea, it is important to support the gesture of international commitment to human rights of the Argentine President".

Marcela Miriam LOSARDO, Secretary of Justice; Dr. Alejandro Walter SLOKAR, Secretary of Criminal Policy and Penitentiary Affaires; Dr. Eduardo Luis DUHALDE, Secretary of Human Rights; and Dr. Rodolfo MATTAROLLO, Undersecretary of Promotion and Human Rights Defense. For the jurist Ricardo Manuel Rojas "this kind of agreements have the negative effect of giving a republican appearance that the totalitarian regime of Cuba does not have".

The Statement joins to the concern expressed by prestigious international organizations for the political motives of President Hugo Chávez for decreeing the closure of Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV), the oldest private TV station of the country, whose license expired on May 27, 2007. Also, the Statement points out that this political decision by the government of Venezuela of not renewing a license to a TV station is a serious worsening of freedom of expression in Venezuela, and it is in violation of the first article of Ushuaia (Democratic Clause).
