The constitutional debate from a citizens perspective
The Constitutional Consensus has several important added values. The participating citizens begin to grant meaning to specific and historic information concerning constitutional topics. This has led them to gather ideas, texts and documents relation to the constitutional history of Cuba as well as from other parts of the world.

Dictatorships block CADAL’s application for UN consultative status
Last May 28th, the UN Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations considered the applications for consultative status of more than a hundred organizations. CADAL’s was the only application closed after being subjected to a roll call vote by request of the delegate of Cuba. Gabriel Salvia, head of CADAL, stated that “the rejection of our organizations’ request for consultative status is another example of who rule the UN”.

«The World is Adapting to China and Not the Other Way Around»
The Spanish writer and journalist spent the past decade passing between China and Hong Kong. Beginning 4 years ago, he has carried out research on the internationalization of China in 40 countries across the world. CADAL’s Support to the Constitutional Consensus in Cuba
Among the initiatives that CADAL’s Puente Democrático Program has been developing in favor of political opening in Cuba, those that stand out are the contributions about the country’s institutions in the context of democratic transition. One of these was the publication of the book “Elementos de Teoría Constitucional: una propuesta para Cuba” by jurist Ricardo M. Rojas, and the proposal by the analyst Aleardo Laría on the adoption of a parliamentary system.

Goodbye Lenin Program
Conclusions of the 17th Forum 2000 Conference
A constantly recurring theme in our discussions has been the extent to which a country’s, or group of countries’, distinctive history and culture impacts on what can be done and how quickly it can be done when it comes to both initiating and sustaining transitions from authoritarianism to democracy, and in particular whether revolutions are likely to consolidate or collapse.

La Pampa, the District with the Most Competitive Primaries
The internal competitiveness of the 2013 primary elections (PASO) was very low, indicating that parties/alliances remain far from a political opening that involves citizens in the selection of candidates for general elections. In that regard, with the purpose of evaluating compliance with the objectives of the law which enabled the PASO elections to take place, the following is an index that measures the competitiveness of the primaries this year.

Without justice, there are no rights
CADAL – the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America- decided to connect the “popular initiative for independent justice and the defense of our rights“, promoted by Daniel Alberto Sabsay and Iván José María Cullen, with various organisations of the civil code. CADAL agrees with the abolishment of the mentioned laws, which are incumbent upon the Federal Congress. In this vein one prevents the arising partisanship of the justice and with that, the destruction of the Republic.

A crisis in the human rights concept in the begining of the 21st century

A Regional To Do List
While the developed countries struggle with serious debt crises (as in the case of Europe), stagnation (like Japan), or listless recuperation (the United States), the Latin American economies are alive and kicking. Yes, the region's growth will slow in 2012, but it will still be significant and above the global average. The region is reliving the 2008-2009 crisis, when the greater part of countries in the region endured the considerable slowdown in the world's economy in a more than satisfactory manner.

Diplomacy and Human Rights in Cuba. From the Black Spring to the liberation of the political prisoners
In the words of George Orwell, “one does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship”. That sentence, from his novel 1984 , published in 1949, was to prove true on a remote Caribbean island – Cuba – a decade later. At that moment, the first day of the year 1959, the world looked kindly on the feat of those bearded, idealistic boys, who had defeated the loathsome regime of Fulgencio Batista.
