Economic Journalism and Economic Policies

In charge of Néstor Scibona and Tristán Rodríguez Loredo, the Seminar ''Economic Journalism and Economic Policies'' took place at Universidad de Belgrano.

On Saturday, April 26, from 9:45 am till 1:15 pm, the Seminar "Economic Journalism and Economic Policies" took place at Universidad de Belgrano. The first part was in charge of Néstor Scibona, economic columnist of "La Nación" newspaper and host at the radio show "Diario por Radio" at Radio "El Mundo". He was journalistic director of "El Cronista Comercial" newspaper, and "Panorama" magazine, and secretary of "Clarín". The second part was in charge of Tristán Rodríguez Loredo, economist and journalist, economic columnist of Perfil newspaper and Apertura magazine. He served as editor of the magazines Negocios and Apertura. He is consultant and professor of journalism at Universidad Católica Argentina and Universidad Austral.

In the first part of the seminar, Néstor Scibona referred to the "Stages of economic journalism in Argentina": "Rodrigazo" (1975), Hiper-inflations (1989/1990), Economic reforms 1990/96 (convertibility, stability, opening, privatization, credit), Hiper-indebtment, low dollar and high unemployment (1997/2001), Zero deficit and blindage (2001), the three D (2001/2002), accelerated recovery (9-9-9-8.5), twin superavits and high dollar, and Normalization or return to the past?

In the second part of the seminar, Tristán Rodríguez Loredo analized: "From macro to micro and viceversa. Business journalism in times of turbulences": Micro and macro reflected in the economic information; Hiperinflation 89-90 and anxiety for short term; convertibility era and microeconomic revolution; Globalization in telecommunications and its impact on local information; New informative needs and the answer of media supply; 2001 crisis and the return to macroeconomic parameters; Ecomonic recovery and change of paradigm in economic analysis; Signs of alert: anticipation journalism.
