CADAL celebrated its 13th anniversary

The celebration of the thirteen years of the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America began at the end of the Diplomatic Forum in which the book «La ONU que yo viví» by Eduardo Ulibarri, former ambassador of Costa Rica to the United Nations, was presented; and it continued the next day with a Forum on «Competitiveness and quality democratic politics in Latin America» which brought together 10 outstanding speakers.

With the organization of a Diplomatic Forum on Thursday 25 and Latino American Buenos Aires Forum on Friday 26, the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America celebrated its thirteen years of existence.

Eduardo Ulibarri, journalist and former ambassador of Costa Rica to the United Nations, presented his book "The UN I lived". Sybil Rhodes and Eduardo Viola commented it, who are vice president and academic advisor of CADAL, respectively.

Among those present on Thursday 25th were the writer Marcos Aguinis, the Ambassador of Switzerland Hanspeter Mock, the author of "The UN I lived" Eduardo Ulibarri and political scientist Marcelo Camusso.

Bernabé García Hamilton, Secretary of CADAL, moderated the first panel of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires held on Friday 26 on "Competitiveness and quality democratic politics in Latin America."

Political scientists Carlos Gervasoni, Liliana De Riz and Gerardo Scherlis participated as exhibitors in the Friday 25th panel in which a balance of the elections of 2015 in Argentina and challenges to consolidate a competitive democracy was made.

Eduardo Viola was one of the speakers at the panel discussing democratic institutions against the indefinite perpetuation in power in Latin America and the role of regional intergovernmental bodies. The panel was moderated by Sybil Rhodes and Andres Cañizález and Hector Schamis also participated as exhibitors.

The last panel of the Forum on Friday, 26, which was titled "The vigorous democracies in Latin America and the regional leadership in defending the rule of law and fundamental freedoms" was moderated by Gabriel Salvia. Speakers were José Antonio Viera-Gallo, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile in Argentina; Eduardo Ulibarri, Journalist and former ambassador of Costa Rica to the UN; and Gerardo Caetano, historian, teacher and researcher at the University of the Republic, Uruguay.
