Visit by Prestigious Paraguayan Journalist
Cándido Figueredo Ruiz, correspondent for the newspaper ABC Color in the city of Pedro Juan Caballero – located on the border between Paraguay and Brazil – visited Buenos Aires from May 31 to June 30. Figueredo Ruiz has been under constant protection by the police for the last two decades, an effort made to protect him from the vindictive criminals that he exposes through his reporting. His investigative work on criminal activity was recognized with the 2015 International Press Freedom Award given by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). On June 2, 2012, the New York Times published his profile under the title “Exposing Drug Secrets, From a Well-Guarded Bunker.” During his stay in Argentina, Figueredo Ruíz was named Guest of Honor to the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires by a local legislator.
