Alberto Fernández's first year of government

During a virtual edition of the Buenos Aires Latin American Forum, CADAL brought together three of its academic advisers, sociologist Liliana De Riz, political scientist Marcelo Cavarozzi and political scientist and internationalist Ignacio Labaqui, to analyze the first year of Alberto Fernández's administration in Argentina.

The meeting was moderated by Sabrina Ajmechet, Academic Director of CADAL, and was addressed to the foreign diplomatic corps of democratic countries in Argentina and special guests.

Liliana de Riz

Liliana De Riz has a BA in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires with an Honorary Diploma and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences from the Paris University with a Special Mention (1975). She is a Consultant Professor at the UBA's Faculty of Social Sciences and Senior Researcher at CONICET. She was coordinator and lead author of Argentina's Human Development Reports 2002 and 2005. She is an expert in Latin American politics, she studied electoral systems, parties, public policies, and human development. Among her books: Society and politics in Chile: from Portales to Pinochet (1979), Radicals and Peronists: the National Congress between 1983 and 1989 (1994), and La Política en suspenso 1966-1976 (2000). She received the UNDP Award for Excellence in Public Policy Impact (2004) and the Konex Award in Political Science (1996).

Marcelo Cavarozzi

Marcelo Cavarozzi is a Doctor in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, United States. He specializes in comparative politics in Latin America and the capitalism-democracy relationship. He is principal investigator of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) at the School of Politics and Government of the National University of San Martín (UNSAM), where he previously served as dean. He was a researcher and director of the Center for State and Society Studies (CEDES) and associate researcher at the Center for Research in Public Administration (CIAP) of the Torcuato Di Tella Institute. He also consulted with international organizations such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Bank, among others, on political reform processes and modernization plans for the public sector. He was awarded the Konex Diploma of Merit.

Ignacio Labaqui

Ignacio Labaqui is a professor of Latin American Politics and Theory of International Relations at the Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA), and of Comparative Regional Governance in the Master of International Studies at the University of CEMA. At the same time, he is serving as a senior analyst at Medley Global Advisors. Labaqui is a Magister of Science in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science; and a degree in Political Science, specializing in International Relations from the UCA.
