Legislative Transparency Awards Ceremony

Related to the publication of CADAL's Document number 122 on “The access to public information of Argentine legislators”, the Executive Committee decided to ask its authors to give awards and special mentions for legislative transparency 2011, in a ceremony that took place on september 2. The award was granted to senator María Eugenia Estenssoro and the special mentions were for her coleagues of the Senate Gerardo Morales and Sonia Escudero, and representatives Laura Alonso and Héctor Piemonte.

The award to legislative transparency 2011 was granted to María Eugenia Estenssoro, Senator, Coalición Cívica/CABA, for publishing with an exemplary level of detail the resources she receives as senator, her declaration of personal assets, the total amount of resources she uses to hire staff, air and bus tickets she receives and their correspondence in money, she also has an area to answer citizen inquieries, the cellphone of her press person, and the data of her staff with their e-mails.

Horacio Fernández, Coordinator of CADAL's Business Council, delivered the Award for Legislative Transparency 2011 to Senator María Eugenia Estenssoro.

Laura Alonso, Federal Representative, PRO/CABA, was granted a Special Mention for Legislative Transparency 2011 for publishing her declaration of personal assets since she became part of the Congress and for implementing and promoting through a law project, a system for the assignment of subsidies.

Tristán Rodríguez Loredo analyst and Director of CADAL's Advisory Council, gives the Special Mention for Legislative Transparency to Representative Laura Alonso.

Sonia Escudero, Senator, Alianza PJ-FPV/Salta, was awarded with a Special Mention for Legislative Transparency 2011 for publishing a personal website with an easy access to information, detailing schollarships, subsidies and pentions she gives, her staff and the area each of them work for.

Marcelo Loprete, Secretary and Director of CADAL's Academic Council, presented the Special Mention for Legislative Transparency to Senator Sonia Escudero.

Gerardo Morales, Senator, UCR/Jujuy, received a Special Mention for Legislative Transparency 2011 for being the only legislator who publishes his assets declarations since he got into the Congress in 2001 until 2010.

Bernabé García Hamilton, Coordinator of CADAL's Academic Council, gave the Special Mention for Legislative Transparency to Senator Gerardo Morales.

Héctor Piemonte, Federal Representative, Coalición Cívica/Provincia de Buenos Aires, was recognized with a Special Mention for Legislative Transparency 2011 for detailing in his website the schollarships and subsidies he gives a way, his staff and his declaration of assets since he became a Congressman in 2009.

Representative Piemonte could not be at the event, so he sent a letter of appollogy and thanked for the award.
