Foro Latinoamericano Montevideo

The first meeting of the year of the Foro Latinoamericano Montevideo took place at the Radisson Hotel, the speakers were the journalists Claudio Romanoff, Nicolás Lussich and Nelson Fernández, who tackle current politics and economic issues of Uruguay on the eve of presidential elections this year.

Nelson Fernández begun the Foro, analysing “The local political map of the departments” including the issues: Electoral schedule, the political power, the local political map, voting intention, the electoral preferences 2005-2009, the political popularity ranking from February 2009, the primary elections in the political parties and the factors in the decision making electoral process. Nelson Fernandez is CADAL`s representative in Uruguay and correspondent of LA NACION from Buenos Aires.

The second presentation was in charge of Claudio Romanoff, journalist from El Observador newspaper, who reffered to “Uruguaian`s political parties perspectives”. Romanoff analysed parties and presidential candidates, their strength and their weaknesses: José "Pepe" Mujica and Danilo Astori, from Frente Amplio; Luis Lacalle and Jorge Larrañaga, of Partido Nacional; and Luis Hierro, Pedro Bordaberry and José Amorín, of Partido Colorado.

Finally, Nicolás Lussich, Host of “Hora de Cierre” and “ El Mercado Agropecuario” in Radio Sarandí 690am; and analyst of “Seragro”, analysed “The Uruguay´s agro in 2009: the drought impact and the world economic crisis”. His presentation included: Fundamentals of the recent growth, The market prices bubble and the adjust (drop o burst), Drought effect, Perspectives for 2009 and Perspectives for the medium term.

 

The first Foro Latinoamericano Montevideo of 2009 was sponsored by Radisson Montevideo Victoria Plaza Hotel and the assistance of businessmen, proffesionals, government employees and analysts, some of them: Romeo Pérez from CLAEH; Fernando Rodríguez Herrera, Defensor del Vecino (Departament of Montevideo); Nelson López Ramón, of the Agricultural and Fishing Department; Enrique Piedra Cueva, Representative de AVINA Uruguay; Florencia Herrera, Communications Director from Botnia; and Dolores Benavente, economist of the National Chamber of Comerce and Services.
