The book was published by CADAL and the Human Rights Foundation. It was written by Africanist historian Omer Freixa, with contributions from activist Alfredo Okenve and a foreword by writer Trifonia Melibea.
The presentation of the book “A Brief History of Equatorial Guinea: The Country with the World’s Longest-Serving Dictator,” held at the University of San Andrés and organized by students from Politeia and CADAL, was moderated by Abril Weinbaur and featured the participation of Alfredo Okenve.
Alfredo Okenve is a social leader and human rights defender from Equatorial Guinea. He is a co-founder (1997) and leader of the NGO CEIDGE, with more than two decades of experience promoting good governance, civic space, and the strengthening of civil society. From 2011 to 2019, he coordinated the national network of civil society organizations. His social commitment has led to persecution, reprisals, assaults, the outlawing of his organization, and exile (since 2019), but has also earned him the 2018 Franco-German Prize for Human Rights and the Rule of Law. He is also a co-founder (2020) and leader of the civic platform “Equatorial Guinea Is Ours Too.” He was also a lecturer and administrator at the National University of Equatorial Guinea, where he received the Silver Medal before being expelled for political reasons.
