Book on Constitutional Theory

On Wednesday, October 29, the book ''Elementos de Teoría Constitucional – Una propuesta para Cuba'' (Elements of Constitutional Theory - A Proposal for Cuba) was presented by its author, Dr. Ricardo Manuel Rojas. The book, published by Fundación Friedrich A. Von Hayek, Unión Editorial and CADAL, tries to systematize those elements of Institutional Theory developed by political liberalism and at the same time offers basic model of constitutional text for Cuba, compiling those elements from the two constitutional precedents of the Island, those of 1901 and 1940.

On Wednesday, October 29, the book “Elementos de Teoría Constitucional – Una propuesta para Cuba” (Elements of Constitutional Theory - A Proposal for Cuba) was presented by its author, Dr. Ricardo Manuel Rojas. The book, published by Fundación Friedrich A. Von Hayek, Unión Editorial and CADAL, tries to systematize those elements of Institutional Theory developed by political liberalism and at the same time offers basic model of constitutional text for Cuba, compiling those elements from the two constitutional precedents of the Island, those of 1901 and 1940. The presentation took place at CADAL's office in Buenos Aires. Czech Ambassador in Argentina, Stepan Zajac and writer Marcos Aguinis, were among the audience.

Ricardo Manuel Rojas was born in Buenos Aires in 1958. Lawyer, since his youth he followed the judicial career, where he started in 1978. He served as secretary of the Federal Supreme Court of Justice between 1986 and 1993, and from then on until 2008, he was judge of Crime Court of the City of Buenos Aires. He has been university professor of assignments on economic analysis, law philosophy and constitutional law. He gave conferences, seminars and courses in different countries such as Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala, Italy, Spain, Turkey and United States. He is author of three books related to the philosophical aspects of law: Las contradicciones del derecho penal (2000), Análisis Económico e Institucional del Orden Jurídico (2004) y Los Derechos Fundamentales y el Orden Jurídico e Institucional de Cuba (2005), the latter winner of the 2006 Sir Anthony Fisher International Memorial Award. Currently he is member of the Constitutional Law Institute at the National Academy of Law and he serves as Vice-Chairman and Executive Director of Fundación Friedrich A. Von Hayek.
