Conference on primary elections

CADAL and Political Science College at Universidad de Belgrano organized the conference ''Primaries, citizen participation and democratic strengthening'', with the participation of Patricio Navia and Delia Ferreira Rubio as guest speakers.

CADAL and Political Science College at Universidad de Belgrano organized the conference "Primaries, citizen participation and democratic strengthening", with the participation of Patricio Navia and Delia Ferreira Rubio as guest speakers.

Patricio Navia holds a Ph.D. in Political Sciencie (New York University), Master of Arts (University of Chicago) and Bachelor of Arts (with honors, University of Illinois at Chicago). He currently is professor at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at New York University and at Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales of Universidad Diego Portales (Chile). He is columnist of the newspaper La Tercera and Poder magazine, both from Chile. He is author of several books, among them: Que gane ‘el más mejor’: Merito y Competencia en el Chile de hoy (co-author with Eduardo Engel, 23 weeks as best-seller in Chile), and Las grandes alamedas: El Chile post Pinochet (10 weeks as best-seller in Chile). He has also published works at prestigious Journals such as: Americas Quarterly, Latin American Politics and Society, Harvard Review of Latin America, Latin American Research Network, Comparative Political Studies, Journal of Democracy, Foreign Policy, Democratization, Social Science Quarterly, Asian Journal of Latin American Studies. He is member of the Academic Council of CADAL.

Delia Ferreira Rubio is Doctor in Law (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and Lawyer (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba). Currently she is chairwoman of Poder Ciudadano and member of the Board of Transparency International, Berlín. As consultant she has worked in different international organizations such as OAS, UNDP and IADB, among others. She has given undergraduate and graduate classes  on Compared Political Systems, Public Policy and Constitutional Law in different universities and think tanks. She is author of books and contributions published by Cambridge University Press (USA), CIEDLA-Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Argentina, Venezuela and Brazil), Colegio de Notarios de Madrid (Spain), International Political Science Association-Lawrence University Press (USA), OAS (Washington), IIDH-CAPEL (Costa Rica), Transparencia (Peru), IDEA International (Sweden), FUCADE (Argentina), Ed. Universidad SRL (Argentina), Ed. La Ley (Argentina), Ed. Hammurabi (Argentina), Ed. Montecorvo (Spain). Instituto de Ciencia Política-Goethe Institut (Uruguay), Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico), PNUD-CIEPLAN (Chile).

At the end of the presentations, Ricardo López Göttig, Director of the College of Political Science at Universidad de Belgrano, was in charge of the conclusions and moderation of the questions from the audience.
