The 2022 edition of the Goodbye Lenin seminar, directed at young students and university graduates, was organized by CADAL and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Ten invited lecturers participated in the series, including Cuban natives María Matienzo and Kirenia Núñez.

In 2019, the Václav Havel Institute (IVH) held 5 events that were: The legacy of Václav Havel, the Seminar "Human rights in International Relations", the Annual Conference in Memory of the Victims of Totalitarianism , the Goodbye Lenin Program and the Day for International Democratic Solidarity. The IVH was created after the death of Václav Havel. With the constitution of the Institute, CADAL seeks to contribute to keeping alive the legacy of the first president of the Czech Republic, and the promotion of Human Rights, prioritizing the task of disseminating the values ​​of democracy, peace and international solidarity .

International Democratic Solidarity Day

Coinciding with the eighth anniversary of Václav Havel's death, CADAL organized a conference where audiovisuals of campaigns for freedom of movement in Cuba were shown; testimonies of women activists from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Honduras and Cuba; and the documentary "Václav Havel: a life in freedom", by Andrea Sedláčková. Previous presentations were given by Sybil Rhodes, Diana Arévalo, Elisa Trotta Gamus and Ricardo López Göttig.

Goodbye Lenin Program - 2019

Organized by the Václav Havel Institute of CADAL and with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, from November 4 to 15 the 2019 edition of the Good Bye Lenin Program was held. This year speakers were Ricardo López Göttig, Olaf Jacob, Agustín Menéndez, Tomas Varnagy, Sabrina Ajmechet, Fernando Ruiz, Omer Freixa, Cecilia Noce, Fernando Pedrosa, Ignacio Hutin, SE Carmen Podgorean and S.E. Irakli Kurashvili. Addressed to young university students and recent graduates, a total of 21 participants received a certificate of attendance for having attended at least to eighty percent of the classes.

Human Rights in Foreign Affairs

The seminar «Human Rights in Foreign Affairs» was organized by the Václav Havel Institute of the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America and was held from 6 to 10 May in 5 days of two classes each at the headquarters of CADAL The main speaker of the activity was Dr. Alejandro Anaya Muñoz, author of the book «Derechos Humanos en las Relaciones Internacionales».

The legacy of Václav Havel

Jakub Klepal, Manuel Cuesta Morúa and Gabriel Salvia discussed the leadership of the dissident and former Czech president in terms of international democratic solidarity. The meeting included the projection of a video message from Edita Hrdá, Director for the Americas of the Foreign Service of the European Union.

This year’s edition of the educational program, organized by the Václav Havel Institute of CADAL and sponsored by Konrad Adenauer Foundation, included the participation of speakers like HE Carmen Podgorean, HE Irakli Kurashvili, HE Yurii Diudin, Gustavo Sterczek, Ricardo López Göttig, Fernando J. Ruiz, Tomás Várnagy, Olaf Jacob, Gabriel C. Salvia, and Ignacio Hutin.

The 2017 Good Bye Lenin Program, which took place from November 6-17, was organized by CADAL’s Václav Havel Institute with support from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

CADAL Organizes Annual Conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Diplomats, public officials, city legislators and human rights activists all participated at the Conference on the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarianism. The day of remembrance is officially recognized by the City of Buenos Aires since last year when it was proposed by city legislators Cecilia de la Torre and Francisco Quintana.

Foreign Policy and Human Rights

From 5 May to 2 June 2017, CADAL organized five sessions within the workshop “Foreign Policy and Human Rights”, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The workshop was moderated by Sybil Rhodes, vice president of CADAL and director of its academic council.

Goodbye Lenin Program - 2016

The programme took place from November 1 to 17 with a total of nine classes. Primarily directed at students and university graduates younger than 25 years, the programme elaborated the development of socialism in Eastern and Central Europe between 1917 and 1989, the transition to communism and the cases of the remaining dictatorships in Cuba and North Korea. A wide range of lecturers participated in the programme including historian Ricardo López Göttig, Professor Fernando Ruiz, the representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Argentina, film critic Pablo de Vita, Sociologist Gabriel Palumbo, Political Scientist Agustín Menédez, the ambassador of Geogria and the President of CADAL.

An Unfinished Dialogue between Osvaldo Paya and Vaclav Havel - Cuba in 2016

Martin Palouš He belonged to the original signatories of Charter 77, served as its spokesperson in 1986 and participated at the creation of Civic Forum during the Velvet Revolution (November 1989). After the fall of Communism he was a member of Parlament, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States and Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations. During his stay in Argentina he was declared Honor Guest of the City of Buenos Aires.

Havel documentary was screened at Universidad de Belgrano

The studies program of International Relations at Universidad de Belgrano and the Vaclav Havel Institute of CADAL organized the presentation of the documentary "Life as Vaclav Havel," directed by Andrea Sedláčková.

The program was given from November, 3th to 17th in five days and was attended by young students and university graduates under 25 interested in the socialist experience in Central and Eastern Europe between 1917-1989, the transitions from communism and regional cases and the most emblematic international remaining dictatorships.

Historian Ricardo López Göttig, academic counselor of CADAL, hold the classes of this year’s edition of the “Good bye Lenin Program: The socialist experience in Central and Eastern Europe, 1917-1989” which took place at the University of CEMA, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Goodbye Lenin Program - 2013

Coinciding with the 24 years of the fall of the Berlin Wall, at the University of CEMA, the Institute Václav Havel organized a new edition of the program Good Bye Lenin. On this occasion, it was offered three classes conducted by the historian Ricardo López Göttig: the construction of socialism in Europe, Soviet expansion in the post-war period and the collapse of the real socialism; and finally the Professor Fernando Ruiz analysed the communication of dissent in dictatorships.

With the aim of analyzing the socialist experience in Central and Eastern Europe between 1917-1989, the transitions to democracy, the communication of dissent and independent journalism in communist dictatorships, the Václav Havel Institute of CADAL's Democratic Bridge Program, organized the Good Bye Lenin Program. The program was aimed at young students and university graduates under the age of 30 and included five classes between October 31 and November 22, 2012 that had as speakers the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, H.E. Petr Kopriva; Ewa Majkut, Second Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Buenos Aires; the historian Ricardo López Göttig and the writer Fernando J. Ruiz.
